Welcome to Acne Chat

Hi there and welcome to acne chat. I’m Kelly and I have suffered from acne on and off since being a teenager. At the start, it was terrible and really affected my self confidence and how I felt about myself growing up. Why did I have acne while all my friends didn’t? I still haven’t got the answer to that question.

Since then, I’ve managed to get rid of my acne, though unfortunately it’s come back from time to time and I still suffer from quite oily skin. Each time get a breakout, I think I learn a bit more about how to keep my acne under control and also how to deal with how I feel about myself.

I have tried a hell of a lot of medications, treatments, natural remedies, creams, diets, cleansers etc. in order to clear my acne, some with success and some with none. I don’t think that there is one product or treatment that will help all people. If there is, I haven’t found it yet LOL. But there are definitely tips and advice I can share that will help you control your acne, so I hope you keep reading.

I guess I should put some sort of disclaimer. I’m not a doctor, so please don’t take anything I write as medical advice. I’m just going to write about what has helped me and other advice from friends and that I find online (also from non-doctors mostly).

When I first had problems with acne, I couldn’t use the internet. All I could do to try and get rid of my acne was to try different skin washes and creams over the counter. Finally, I went to the doctor which I found VERY VERY embarassing. What’s worse is that the doctor didn’t even take me seriously. He said it was just a phase and I would grow out of it. So I went away and waited for it to clear up for about a year (this was one of the worst years of my teenage life, by the way) .

Nothing changed, if anything my acne got worse, and I eventually changed doctors to someone more sympathetic who put me on an effective treatment which started to clear my acne a few months later.

Now the internet has made it much easier to find information on acne, and communicate with other people who suffer from acne. I wish I would have had this resource back in those days instead of suffering in silence. Anyway, I’m running on now, but I guess what I’m trying to say is that with this blog, I want to try and help people deal with their acne (both physically and mentally) the way I would have like to be helped.

Take Care,
Kelly
